Mechelen has undergone a real metamorphosis in recent years. When it got a new mayor in 2001, it changed from a marginal town to a topper among the Flemish art cities. Every year more residents and visitors find their way to the city.

Mechelen is eigenlijk één grote wijk, met de Grote Markt als historisch centraal punt. Dit grote centrale plein wordt beheerst door de indrukwekkende St-Romboutstoren. Zowel de skywalk op de 97m hoge toren als de beklimming ernaartoe staan garant voor een bijzondere beleving. Alle huizen dateren uit verschillende tijden en hebben verschillende stijlen, met vooral renaissance en rococo. Midden in het historische centrum voel je de bloeiende en Bourgondische handelsstad die Mechelen ooit was.
